I am...

I am Associate Professor in Sociology at University of Catania, Department of Education and Researcher at I.S.I.G (Institute of International Sociology, Gorizia, Italia). I served as  Visiting Professor in Sociology at University of Szczecin (PL) between 2013 and 2015,  Institute of Sociology.
I held a Ph.D. in Border studies - with a focus on methodology of social research – IUIES (International University Institute for European Studies), University of Trieste. My current research interests are oriented to surround the study of alternative social forms. I am focused on three areas in particular: the sociological approach to digital game based learning (an alternative to the mainstream education patterns), homeschooling (an alternative to the public education system), and identification dynamics in cultural contact context (an alternative to mainstream analysis of identity issue). All three of these are "bottom-up" initiatives to empower marginalized social components and unveil alternatives to mainstream interpretation of social phenomena. Moreover, I work on methodological and epistemological aspects of action-research strategy. I am currently Research unit manager, project ‘Multicultural Teachers. Enhancing Cultural and Linguistic Treasure of Europe through Teachers ’ funded within the EU Erasmus+ “Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices”, Project Number 2015-1-PL01-KA201-016963, Department of Educational Sciences, University of Catania. Moreover from January 2010 to December 2012 I was Executive Coordinator of the LLP-Comenius project SMILEY (www.smileyschool.eu  - Project Number 510320-LLP-1-2010-1-IT-COMENIUS-CMP ).
